MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (AP) - As among a handful of clubs with new coaches and a new offense to set up, the Minnesota Vikings stand to shed plenty through the lingering lockout.

 

The labor impasse has taken away useful offseason advancement time.

 

Oh, plus they have a quarterback to break in, as well, whether it is first-round draft choose Christian Ponder or a veteran they could sign as soon as the owners and gamers forge an agreement to allow free agency to begin.

``Our organization has done lots of correct issues in my mind, so far as dealing with this lockout within the correct way and preparing us for some of the issues that are going to come,'' Frazier said. ``We talked via some things yesterday with our ownership and just went through some of the various situations. So I really feel confident that once the time comes - due to the leadership that we've on our offense, our defense, our unique teams, our employees - that we'll be ready to go.''

``That's our task. If you're not prepared for it, I do not feel poor for you personally,'' defensive end Brian Robison stated recently.

 

Robison has been performing combined martial arts workouts near his home in Texas.

 

``Hopefully everybody is busting their butt to get there, and we're able to hit the ground operating once the time arrives,'' he stated.

 

Frazier stated the organization is ``still discussing'' a drop-dead date for committing to or canceling training camp at Minnesota State University in Mankato in the event the lockout remains in location. School begins there Aug. 22, so a delayed out-of-town camp is unlikely.

 

The other contingency plans pertain to free company, exactly where the Vikings will turn for help at a number of positions, quite possibly such as quarterback.

 

One of the biggest unknowns is precisely which players will probably be around the market, given the uncertainty about eligibility specifications - could be four years, could be six of experience - in the collective bargaining arrangement.

 

``Whether or not it is a six-year plan or perhaps a five-year strategy as well as men that are in the finish of four, we have a checklist and we've recognized the guys that we think fit what we're looking for if we decide to go that route,'' Frazier said. ``We have not made a decision that we're heading to go having a veteran quarterback, but we have an idea, according to the checklist we've put with each other, if we went that route who we'd target.''
